Barilla Protein+ Pasta Goes Vegan

Pasta manufacturer Barilla has created a new formula for their Protein+ line of pasta making it finally suitable for vegans and those on plant-based diets.

Instead of eggs Barilla now uses the new ingredients of lentils, chickpeas, and peas. They use no other ingredients whatsoever in their product.

Originally egg whites were used in the Protein+ line of Barilla pastas and it contained 10 grams of protein per serving. To keep up with the industry trend of plant-based diets Barilla has removed the egg whites from the pasta.

The new vegan Protein+ pasta line is available in angel hair, spaghetti, farfalle, thin spaghetti, penne, elbows, and rotini.

Barilla states in their press release that the new Protein+ pastas are not just a good source for protein but is also a good source for thiamin, iron, folic acid, niacin, and riboflavin, all of which are important from metabolism and general energy.

The reworked pasta line is also non-GMO and kosher as well.

Jean-Pierre Comte President of Barilla Americas says the reformulation for the Protein+ line was done to fulfill consumer needs.

“We are always monitoring trends and looking to offer products that fit our consumers’ needs, and in this case, we focused on those that lead a completely plant-based lifestyle, but want more protein,” he explained in the press release.

The new Barilla Protein+ pastas will be available in most grocery stores throughout North America and are also available to buy on Amazon.

Prices for the Protein+ line depend on the pasta type and the location of the products for purchase of course.

While there are already many pastas available that are plant-based and vegan it’s nice to have another option that is higher in protein for athletes or those that are concerned about their protein intake.

One product at a time the world is changing. One product at a time the world is going vegan and it can’t come fast enough.

Barilla is a family company, not listed on the stock exchange, chaired by brothers Guido, Luca, and Paolo Barilla.

It was founded by their great-grandfather, Pietro Barilla, who opened a bakery in Parma in 1877.

Now, Barilla is famous in Italy and throughout the world for the excellence of its food products. With its brands – Barilla, Vero Gusto, Mulino Bianco, Pan di Stelle, Gran Cereale, Harrys, Pavesi, Wasa, Filiz, Yemina and Vesta, Misko, Voiello and Cucina Barilla.
